Happy Valentine's Day!

we had a very happy valentine's day. i had decorated the hyphen and put out candy gifts and cards for the kids. they were very happy and brought a chai up for me in bed. nell and zaven took valentines to school for their class. they took lollipops with construction paper lips and mustaches on them, they were pretty cute. nell had a good day at school and later when she opened her valentine from grammy she "shared" a sticker with esmé. it reminds me of the time zaven put a sticker on nell's head, i think it was a heart sticker too. here is nell enjoying her lips lollipop, wearing her heart outfit.
esmé had a little bathy today. she can sit up in the bath now and loves to splash and play.
the other day we had a little snow, nell was intent on making a snowman, here he is. nell is wearing a new hanna anderson outfit.
esmé enjoyed sitting watching us make the snowman
just as the snow started falling we rushed outside to let esmé experience her first snow. she seemed to like it.
nell had a great idea to do some big art. we got a moving box and made a city scape. we had a great time.
nell is such a sweet big sister, she loves playing with esmé. here she has worn her out and they are snuggling. very sweet. note nell is wearing a silk scarf tied as a shirt.
on super bowl sunday, zaven had two friends over. we had all the game food and even some football decorations. zaven had cleaned his room and nell was so excited. the boys watched the first quarter of the game pretty intently and then they went outside and played their own football game. they were very nice to nell and let her play and cheer. they stayed until 1/2 time. it was really fun. we had not had these boys over, they are from zaven's class this year. it was nice to have them and meet their parents. zaven stayed up and watched the whole game. we were on pins and needles hoping the giants would pull it out.
when milla and poppy were here milla brought several old dresses, esmé wore a florence eisman jumper the other day. the tag says 2T. i can't imagine a 2 year old in this as a dress. who knows. it is cure either way. esmé is growing up so much she is so fun and cute, still very happy. she has had a little cold this week and has been a little fussy. she has started making a new noise she blows through her lips and she will do it for a long time once she starts. she has also started sticking her tongue in and out it is really cute. i think i heard her say "mama" in the night last night, which is what happened when she started saying "dada", so i am waiting ... not so patiently for that to come.

zaven started lacrosse last night. he is going to be having hour and a half long practices mon and wed with optional practices on saturday. i like the coaches and I think he will have fun.
nell is loving her new school and is so happy to go there everyday.
chris is riding his bike a lot.

January

2012 is off to a good start. We recently had a visit from Milla and Poppy. We love that we are close enough to get frequent visits!
When Milla and Poppy were here we took the ferry to Jamestown and back, a guy shared some bread with Zaven and Nell and let them feed the seagulls. They loved it. Mom held Esmé out on the deck and she liked it too and fell asleep. On Sunday afternoon Nell decided she wanted to go to the beach. So Esmé, Zaven, Nell and I headed to Jamestown to a little park there that has some sand. I put Esmé down on a blanket and build sand castles with Nell and threw the football with Zaven. Esmé was very happy and soon found the sand and some things in it.
Here she is, very smiley.

Occasionally, very occasionally I can put Esmé down while she is sleeping, here she is napping on her playmat.
When Milla and Poppy were here the kids wanted to go to the Jamestown Living Museum, but we did not have time. So Monday, Zaven had early release from school so we headed down to visit then. They tell you it is a 90 minute guided tour. Ours lasted closer to 2 hours, but the kids loved it. They scraped hair off of a hide with a shell, sawed a log, went on a ship, the Godspeed and got to see the quarters of the passengers. Saw the homes of the Powhatans. Esmé had a good nap in the baby bjorn.
Jumping back to when Milla and Poppy were here we went to the Glasshouse in Jamestown. We all enjoyed watching them make the glass disks and stamp them. Chris has one from 1986, his first trip here. I have one from 2011, that Chris gave me for Christmas, and Zaven and Nell have 2012 ones that Poppy and Milla got them.
This is a cute pic of Esmé on her changing table. She is wearing the little booties that Carrie gave Zaven when he was a baby.
Esmé has started eating regular food. She seems to like everything she has tried. Today I finally got around to making her food fresh, rather than the organic jarred food. I roasted butternut squash and a sweet potato and then pureed them together. She loved that! I think I will try to better making her things here. I may also send this photo to GPS, considering she has her Bruiser bib on.
With all the warm weather we are loving being out and about in the Restoration. Here the children found a lady with chickens, they got to pet them. There were a few others in a closed basket and Zaven stuck his finger in and got pecked. The ladies explained that his fingers looked like worms.
With Esmé able to sit up she is able to play more. She is starting a band while I make dinner.
Well we all remember years ago when Nell fell and bumped her tooth and scraped all the skin off her nose, her front tooth was a little off color, but the dentist said it did not need to be pulled. Then it started hurting and it was determined it did need to be pulled. Nell was very brave. ALthough it seemed to hurt. She cried when they were giving her the novacaine which made me feel week in the knees, but she wanted me to hold her hand, so I did. But with my eyes averted. Then she said ow when they were actively pulling her tooth, and I glanced over, at that point I put Esmé down and had Zaven hold Nell's hand and I sat down. Before it was all over I had to lay on the ground. I do not like seeing my baby hurt. Anyway, the kids loved it and joked about having to drag me to the car and drive home themselves, luckily it did not come to that. Nell has been funny about her missing tooth. She says it's her "new look". She is still getting used to it.
I love this pic of Esmé all snuggled up.
The other day Nell wanted to go "for an adventure" so out in the the Restoration we went. She brought a basket to collect things and eventually we found our way to the stream.
We finally got a cribby for Esmé. It is a cute Jenny Lind style. Zaven, Nell and I put it together. They were really very helpful. Esmé is still learning to sleep in her crib. As I type she is there, but will surely wake and come be with us at some point in the night. Her crib is in Nell's room with Zaven just right there, her crying does not seem to wake them.
We had a visit from Lexie and Quinn! We loved having them here. Quinn is beyond cute and Lexie is the best mom and such a sweet friend to me and the kids. We had a big adventure while they were here. We were walking around enjoying the nice weather. We met a fellow, Dean, who told us about the pigeons, the ox and took us into the pasture to see some rams. Well while we were in there, the rams decided they wanted to "play" and them rammed into Nell and then came after Lexie with Quinn in the stroller. We had to really beat it out of there. I had Esmé in the stroller with the scooter on top, it fell off and Dean used it to fend off the rams while we got the gate open. it was pretty exciting, needless to say, we won't be going into the pastures anymore!
Sweet Quinn looking at the horses.
Everyone really loved each other. Nell and Zaven still talk about how cute their "cousin" is.
A few days after our anniversary, the kids got up early and decorated the den and threw us a party. They got all dressed up, had drinks and streamers. They were very sweet.

December 2011

I can not believe I have not posted since Thanksgiving. We had a super busy December!
I just uploaded a bunch of photos and they are not exactly in order, but I am not going to change the order I am just going to go through and say what each is, hopefully they will be grouped about right.
Here is a photo from our wedding, Chris and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary on New Year's Eve, it is pretty amazing to think we have been together that long. Chris said it well "we are off to a good start"
Chris was installed as the 35th Rector of Bruton Parish Church, it was a great event. We were so thrilled to have Grammy, Milla, Poppy, Julie Toland and Sharon in addition to Stuart Hoake, who came to preach, here to celebrate with us.
The 3rd grade at Matthew Whaley put on the Nutcracker, it was great fun. Zaven was a toy soldier and did a great job. Nell loved the performance and we went out to dinner at the Cracker Barrel after to celebrate.
Jumping around a little, this is a photo of the family at the installation.
One warm sunny day in December, Nell, Esmé and I walked up to Merchant Square, got lunch at the Cheese Shop and ate outside. As we were sitting there, Santa came to visit. We have had a lot of great weather and have been able to be outside a lot.
The weekend of Chris' Installation we threw a cocktail party for the members of the Search Committee and Vestry and their spouses, I think about 70 people. It was a great success, but I must say it would have been a very different party without all the wonderful help from Milla and Poppy, here Nell is passing by as Milla works on flowers for the table.
I believe that this is a photo of me and Chris headed to the Colonial Williamsburg Christmas party. It was at the Lodge and Poppy was kind enough to be our driver for the night, which was great because the valet was a mess and it was raining. We had a nice time and saw a lot of people we knew.
Earlier that same day we all met at the Christmas tree lot, chose a tree, bought a new tree stand and headed home. Zaven chose the tree and it turned out to be just the right height. Esmé was asleep and waited in the car.
Before all of the above, Milla and Grammy came to Williamsburg to stay with the kids while Chris and I went to Mexico to celebrate Chris Ferguson's 40th birthday. Here is a photo of them the day we got home, it is a little foggy, which I think is an accurate depiction of their state after 4 days, 3 nights with this crew.
Here we are in Mexico on the beach with a full moon. We had an amazing time. It was a beautiful place. We were there with a really fun group of people and the weather was perfect.
While we were in Mexico, I went in to Playa del Carmen with two girls and we went to a few shops. I bought the winged heart at the top of the tree for Chris for our anniversary. It is now over the fireplace in our den.
A cute pic of our hosts Meg and Chris.
The view from our room!
This is a cute pic of Nell in her Christmas swing top. We are walking to get Zaven from school on a warm December day.
I was persuaded to get the kids an Elf on the Shelf. Here he is in one of his hiding places. We named him R.W Rollo. (R. W. stands for red and white). We did not find that the Elf had any behavioral benefits. But we had fun with the little guy.
Christmas was great. We loved having Grammy, Ella, Milla and Poppy here to celebrate. This photo shows the whole group.
Nell and Grammy and Strawberry Shortcake.
Milla and Esmé. Milla got in on the matching pajama act and had a coordinating Christmas morning outfit, so fun!
This cool sign was carried around on the night of the Grand Illumination.
Here is a picture of our house with our decorations up. Needless to say, we did not win any awards, but they did not come and redo it so I took that as a "win".
This is an out take from our Christmas card photos. I really love this one of just the kids.
Was this picture posted earlier too. This is cute Nell.
